Liz Repella totaled 10 points for the second-seeded Mountaineers (28-5), who shot just 24.1 percent from the field and have yet to win the conference title. They were beaten by UConn in the 2006 final. Natalie Burton's free throw trimmed West Virginia's deficit to 33-28 with 15 1/2 minutes left, but the Mountaineers went the next 11-plus minutes without a field goal, thanks to some suffocating defense. The 7-foot-3 Thabeet was putting up a paltry 2.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.16 blocks in 50 games with the Grizzlies before being sent down. |

| did not list this game under the below category, "The important conference showdown." The reason is that I reserve that category for teams that are both all but in. I'm sure the Nutmeg State would disagree (as would many others) in my deeming of UConn (17-12, 7-9) as a bubble team, but the Huskies have had an inconsistent season plagued by turnover trouble (demonstrated in the loss to Louisville on Sunday) and a lack of control over the game. Needless to say, that meeting resulted in a double-digit loss and started the ball rolling in what became a nine-game slide to open the campaign. There was a span of four straight wins for the squad almost immediately after, but not |

| Virginia Mountaineers play host to the Cincinnati Bearcats at WVU Coliseum. The eighth-ranked Mountaineers continue to jockey for position among the Big East elite. WVU's conference run hit a road block earlier this week, as the team faltered at UConn, 73-62. The loss dropped West Virginia to 10-5 in league play. Cincinnati has had its ups and downs this season and the team's 7-8 league ledger is indicative of that. The Bearcats have split their last four games, but enter this tilt off a 74-69 |
